The Key to Sustainable Weight Loss: an interview with Dr. Dopplinger

Understanding the Weight Loss Journey

Ready for a lasting change? In this interview, Dr. Alexandra Dopplinger from the Tamina Health Center, located at the five-star Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, shares the secret to sustainable weight loss: it's all about building the habits you need for a long-term transformation. She even shares an amazing success story that proves it.

Peter Zombori: Thank you for joining us, Dr. Dopplinger. We've had many requests about weight loss, and we want to get specific about the programs you offer. A common question we hear is, "How much weight will I lose if I come to your center?"

Dr. Dopplinger: That depends on the length of your stay. On average, most people lose about two to three kilograms in one week. If you stay longer, you can expect to lose more. However, our main goal isn't just to see a number on the scale go down. We want to give you the tools and knowledge to continue your journey once you go home. Those first two to three kilograms are just the start.

Peter Zombori: Do you stay in touch with clients after they leave?

Dr. Dopplinger: We see weight loss as a marathon, not a sprint. We aim to give guests the tools to continue their success on their own. However, if you have questions about nutrition or training after your stay, you can always contact us, and we'll connect you with a trainer.

Overcoming Challenges and Building New Habits

Peter Zombori: Another question we often get is, "What kind of challenges will I face during a weight loss retreat?" I can relate to this. I'm trying to cut carbs right now. Yesterday, I had fish and spinach for dinner and still felt hungry. Later, I had a little Nutella, which wasn't good. Can you share some of the common challenges people face and how you help them manage?

Dr. Dopplinger: We typically see two main challenges. The first is breaking old habits. Sometimes, people eat because they're stressed or emotional. We address these underlying issues by combining our weight loss programs with mental coaching and tailored nutrition. We want to make sure guests are aware of the triggers that cause them to revert to old habits when they go back home so they can make mindful choices.

The second challenge is consistency. Long-term success is only possible if you are consistent with your training and food choices at home. That's why we help guests start building new, healthy habits during their stay. We know a good habit isn't built in just seven days—it takes longer, often 21 to 28 days. But if you're here for two weeks, for example, you can start going to the gym regularly so that it's easier to continue that habit when you return home.

Real Success Stories

Peter Zombori: Can you share a success story about someone who completed a weight loss retreat and left healthy and happy?

Dr. Dopplinger: One of our guests who stayed with us at the beginning of the year lost nearly five kilograms in her two-week stay. She recently came back for a recheck after five months, something we offer all our retreat guests. We checked her numbers and found she had reached her goal of losing almost 10 kilograms by staying focused on her health.

Peter Zombori: That's great to hear, Dr. Dopplinger. We'll be doing more interviews on similar topics in the future. For now, thank you for your time and for sharing your great insights.
