MyPremiumEurope Switzerland has plenty to offer for a great holiday – top class accommodation, excellent restaurants and a landscape second to none. But for a great snowsports holiday, there’s one key ingredient that you can’t do without: plenty of the white stuff. Here’s our guide to four of the best Swiss resorts. Arosa The beautiful resort of Arosa is located in the canton of Graubünden, at the end of a valley with superb landscapes surrounding it. The village itself lies at 1800m and offers plenty of ski in/ski out accommodation. The system of lifts carries visitors up to 2653m above sea level, well above the altitude considered snow safe. From there, you can enjoy 70km of well-maintained pistes, plus another 30km of freeride area and a half pipe. And if something slower paced is your thing, then explore the almost 60km of hiking trails that crisscross the surrounding region. Season: Early December – Mid April Visit Website - Arosa Tourism Verbier The town of Verbier lies at the heart of the Four Valleys snowsports area in the south-west of Switzerland, and every year attracts thousands of visitors who know that they’ll find great snow conditions and a fantastic variety of activities on offer. The ski area reaches its peak at 3,330m at the top of the Mont-Fort Glacier and in total includes 410km of runs and 89 lifts. Whether you’re a lifetime fan or are having your first wobbly shot with a pair of skis, there are plenty of runs suitable for all abilities. The resort is particularly well-known for having great opportunities for off-piste skiing, so it’s perfect for those who are a little more adventurous and are keen to find some pristine, unmarked snow. Season: Early November – Late April Visit Website - Verbier Tourism Zermatt With the iconic Matterhorn as a backdrop, Zermatt is a classic Swiss ski resort and has been drawing visitors for decades to enjoy the great snowsports on offer. And it’s easy to see why when you consider what’s on offer. Start your day at base height of 1620m and use the excellent system of lifts to reach the summit of the resort at 3899m. In fact, Zermatt boasts the highest run in Europe! It’s a tough choice to make between 350km of runs and if that’s not enough, chase your thrills with heli-skiing or at the Gravity Park. And if the white stuff doesn’t fall quite as much as you would like, no worries – over 70% of the pistes are either situated on the glacier or have snow making facilities, making this a guaranteed winter wonderland. Season: Late October – Early May (Year round on the glacier) Visit Website - Zermatt Tourism Saas Fee This high altitude village is said to be one of the most beautiful in all the Swiss Alps and in 2012 won the title of Best Ski Resort in Switzerland. The highest of the pistes reaches almost 3,600m above sea-level and most of the runs which do not lead over the glacier are covered by snow making facilities, so you can be sure that you’ll have plenty to ski and board on right up until the end of the season. The great combination of the majestic surrounding peaks, beautiful sunny days and snow sure reputation make Saas Fee an excellent option for an adrenaline filled holiday.
